Festival Tango Par La Côte
Festival Tango Par La Côte is an annual festival in Benidorm, Spain, dedicated to the celebration of Argentine tango through various activities and social events. This festival has had one edition, making its mark in the local tango scene.
History
The Benidorm Tango Festival, a vibrant celebration of Argentine tango, was founded in 2015 in the picturesque coastal city of Benidorm, Spain. The festival was initiated by passionate tango enthusiasts, including David Reus and Victoria Huang, who sought to create a welcoming environment for tango dancers from around the world. The inaugural event took place at the Gran Hotel Bali, a stunning venue known for its excellent acoustics and beautiful wooden dance floor, setting the stage for an unforgettable tango experience.
Over the years, the festival has evolved significantly, growing from its humble beginnings into a major international event. The festival typically spans five days, featuring a rich program of workshops led by renowned tango instructors, social dancing sessions known as milongas, and live music performances. Each edition has seen an increase in attendance, with participants traveling from various countries to immerse themselves in the tango culture, enjoy the Mediterranean climate, and connect with fellow dancers.
Notable editions of the festival include the 4th and 5th editions, which featured live orchestras such as La Gran Orquesta La Juan D'Arienzo and workshops conducted by world champion dancers. The festival has consistently offered a diverse range of activities, including 16 milongas spread across mornings, afternoons, and evenings, ensuring that attendees have ample opportunities to dance and socialize. The 2021 edition was particularly memorable as it adapted to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, offering a more intimate format with workshops and practilongas led by esteemed teachers Sebastián Achaval and Roxana Suarez.
Today, the Benidorm Tango Festival is recognized as one of the premier tango events in Europe, attracting hundreds of dancers each year. The festival's reputation for high-quality instruction, exceptional musical programming, and a warm, inclusive atmosphere has solidified its place in the hearts of tango lovers. As it continues to grow, the festival remains committed to fostering a sense of community and celebrating the beauty of tango in a stunning seaside setting.
